HOLISTIC PELVIC CARE
a revolutionary approach to female wellness
The pelvic floor is a central but often-overlooked area of the body.
Prolonged sitting, hormonal birth control and IUDs, injuries, infections, surgeries, childbirth, medications, and trauma - whether sexual or not, can all have a negative impact on the health of our pelvic space. Pelvic disorders and pain are common experiences that many women learn to endure, not knowing there are natural options to relieve their symptoms.
While kegels are often touted as way to help tone the pelvic floor, many pelvic symptoms arise out excess tension in the fascia (connective tissue). Addressing this with manual therapy is often necessary for strengthening to be effective.
Holistic Pelvic Care™ is a unique approach to pelvic floor therapy pioneered by Portland's own Tami Kent, author of Wild Feminine, Mothering from Your Center, and Wild Creative. After years of offering pelvic floor work from a conventional physical therapy approach, Tami discovered that women gained more optimal results when they played an active role in their own healing as opposed to simply having a medical procedure done to them.
HPC combines gentle intravaginal massage, trigger-point therapy and myofascial release with guided visualization and breathwork to affect physiological and energetic changes in the pelvic bowl.
"The primary goal of HPC is to empower a woman to inhabit her pelvic space and occupy her feminine ground physically, energetically, emotionally & spiritually"
- Tami Kent, MSPT
By directly influencing the circulation of blood, hormones, fluids, and the condition of the connective tissue in the pelvic bowl, HPC is an effective treatment for many pelvic symptoms, including:
Pain with vaginal penetration
Difficulty with orgasm
Lack of sensation
Prolapse of pelvic organs
Heaviness in the pelvic bowl
Hip pain that hasn't responded to other forms of therapy
Effects of cancer therapy
You don't need to have symptoms to experience the benefits of HPC™
It can also be helpful for:
Optimizing fertility/preparing for pregnancy
Reinforcing creative energy and vitality
Healing more fully and effectively from childbirth (both vaginal and c-section)
Healing from birth loss, miscarriage or abortion
Establishing healthy boundaries
Support transition between major life phases, such as menopause
Healing from trauma
Increasing proprioception in the pelvic space
New patients, along with existing patients who have not been seen in the previous 2 years are required to begin with 2 sessions spaced 1-2 weeks apart. My assessment, together with your desires, will be discussed on your second visit to determine if more treatments are necessary. Most people find that 2-4 sessions are sufficient to achieve their health goals.
